What's New for 2022?

The 2022 version of the Pirus introduces a new trim level: the Nightshade Edition. Available with front-wheel or all-wheel-drive, the Prius Nightshade Edition upgrades the exterior of this hatchback with a sleek style, complete with black model/grade badging, black headlight accessories, black alloy wheels, and SofTex trimmed interior upholstery.

Performance

The Toyota Prius continues to offer outstanding fuel economy and performance to this day, though its hybrid drive has gone through updates over the years. The current Prius runs on a 1.8-liter, 96-horsepower engine along with a permanent-magnet AC Synchronous electric motor, both of which work to charge a 53-kilowatt lithium-ion battery. The engine comes paired with an electronically-controlled continuously variable automatic transmission (e-CVT) which intelligently selects the best gear changes to provide optimal long-term fuel economy.

While the Prius comes standard with front wheel drive, drivers are not limited to this option. Available on select trims is an electronic on-demand compact all-wheel-drive system (AWD-e) which helps keep you firmly gripped on the road while saving energy in normal driving conditions.

Interior

As a hatchback, the Prius is more spacious and comfortable than many similarly-sized sedans, with up to 93.1 cubic feet of passenger volume and 27.4 cubic feet of cargo volume. Fold in the back seats, and you will find the cargo bay expands to 50.7 cubic feet, when you need maximum storage for outdoor gear or large grocery runs. Cloth seating upholstery comes standard, with leather and SofTex options available on select trims. Also, standard is a smart-flow climate control system with pollen filtration, keeping you comfortable and allergen-free.

Safety

The new Prius features the Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 suite, which updates some of the previous version's apps and adds a couple more to help you identify upcoming traffic changes and keep you from unwanted drifting. Standard TSS 2.0 features now include Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), Road Sign Assist (RSA), Full-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), and Automatic High Beams (AHB). Most trims also come standard with the Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA).

Technology

Each trim of the new Prius comes with a wide selection of features, so whether you like to keep it simple or are a lover of all thing's tech-savvy, there is a trim you can enjoy. Standard features of this hatchback include the Smart Key System and Push Button Start, along with LED Daytime Running Lights, Apple CarPlay, and Amazon Alexa capability. Most Prius trims also include conveniences like Intelligent Clearance Sonar (ICS) and Intelligent Parking Assist, both come in handy when parallel parking in the city.
